I just received this news from Joe Liro, ACC professor of Russian: Theo Warner, ACC Alum, is headed to Siberia!
Congratulations, Theo!
Theo Warner, a recent ACC student, has been awarded a Fulbright-Hays grant to participate in the University of Texas “Siberia by Southwest” program. Theo was Professor Mary Greff’s Russian student from fall 2015 to spring 2016 and mine from fall 2016 to spring 2017. He earned an Associate’s degree in History from ACC and is now enrolled at TSU where his major is political science.
Funded by a U.S. Department of Education long-term Fulbright Advanced Overseas Intensive Language Training grant, the program is dedicated to providing US educators and students from higher education institutions across the southern and southwestern US with advanced Russian language training and an innovative disciplinary experience that will build both Russian language proficiency and professional skills.
The “Siberia by Southwest” program will provide 20 current/recent students, educators, and education administrators at the third- and fourth-year levels of language proficiency with ten weeks of advanced Russian-language and area studies training relevant to their future careers. Qualified instructors will provide intensive Russian language training in an interactive classroom environment four days a week. Student placement with Russian host families will deepen language immersion and direct engagement with the local culture.
The program will be based in Irkutsk, Siberia, and there will also be excursions to Lake Baikal, Moscow, and Saint Petersburg. Additional details are here:

To be one of twenty selected is a singular honor. Mary Greff and I are very proud of Theo and are delighted for him.
And we’re proud of our Russian program! Thanks, Joe and Mary!
